Indian team captain Rohit Sharma got a memorable welcome after returning to his home after the celebrations in the Wankhede Stadium. Sharma’s Mumbai Indians teammate Tilak Varma and childhood friends welcomed the Indian captain with a salute. The Men in Blue were stranded for three days in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, but they finally touched down in Delhi on Thursday, July 4.
The World Champion cricketers received a grand welcome when they arrived in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the team for a special breakfast. The entire squad then traveled to Mumbai, where the BCCI organized an open-top bus parade so fans could get an up-close look at their favorite players.
After the celebrations concluded, Rohit Sharma met his friends at home. His Mumbai Indians teammate Tilak Varma, along with Sharma’s brother Vishal and childhood friends, saluted the India captain in a viral video. In the footage, the group can be seen approaching Rohit and imitating the manner in which Sharma collected the World Cup trophy.
They joyfully carried the Indian skipper over their shoulder. In his house, Rohit was also greeted with a carpet made of flower petals.
Rohit played a key role in India‘s unbeaten T20 World Cup outing, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer. He scored 257 runs in eight innings at an impressive average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70, including three half-centuries.
