After India‘s thrilling victory in the T20 World Cup final in Barbados on Saturday, three members of the triumphant squad announced their retirement from T20Is. Virat Kohli, who was named Player of the Match, was the first to reveal his decision immediately after the game. India captain Rohit Sharma followed suit during the post-match press conference. A few hours later, Ravindra Jadeja also joined them in retiring from the format. However, the question remains – will Jasprit Bumrah be the next to step away from T20Is?

Jasprit Bumrah’s standout performances were instrumental in India’s T20 World Cup triumph after 17 years. He claimed 15 wickets at an average of 8.26. Bumrah’s most impactful display came in the final, where his economical spell in the death overs thwarted South Africa’s hopes of victory.

Following the game, Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja called it quits from T20Is, but Bumrah said he would be hanging around.

“Retirement is not happening,” Bumrah said when unexpectedly asked about it during the felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium. “I’ve only just begun, and I wish this question remains far in the future.”

In the event in Mumbai, Kohli lauded Bumrah’s crucial performance that helped India recover after Heinrich Klaasen had brought South Africa close to victory, with just 25 runs needed off the final 25 balls. Bumrah bowled two economical overs, conceding only six runs, which left South Africa in disarray and ultimately led to their seven-run defeat.

“As fans in the stadium, we all were thinking that the game was getting out of our control. But what Jasprit did in the final five overs was truly special. Bumrah repeatedly brought our team back into the tournament. We are fortunate to have him playing for us. Please join me in giving Bumrah a huge round of applause for his outstanding efforts,” stated Kohli.
