3 Indian players comeback hopes almost over: At present, there is a wave of Team India's T20 World Cup 2024 victory in India. Everyone is immersed in celebration. Along with the fans, the players are also feeling this feeling till now and they should, because India managed to win this tournament again after 17 years. However, after winning this tournament, Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 International but have kept themselves available for the other two formats.
However, there are some players who are not expected to return to T20 International. At the same time, it is also important to mention some key players who have been a part of Team India's success for many years but now their hopes of returning to any format are almost over. These players were first sidelined from one format and later completely dropped. In this article, we are going to mention 3 such players.
35-year-old Ishant Sharma made his debut in all three formats for India at the very beginning of his career. He played regularly for a few years but then he started getting sidelined. First he was dropped from T20 International and then he was shown the way out of the ODI team as well. However, amidst all this, Ishant's dominance in the Test format remained intact and he managed to play more than 100 Tests. Ishant played his last Test match in 2021. Since then he has not returned to the Indian team. Team India has excellent fast bowlers in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. For this reason, Ishant's return now seems unlikely.
The doors of Team India are almost closed for experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane was already dropped from the T20 and ODI team and later he was also dropped from the Test team. However, he managed to make a comeback but could not perform effectively. Due to this, he was not selected in the home Test series against England. To challenge the 35-year-old Rahane, India has also started giving opportunities to some youngsters in their Test team. In such a situation, the path of Rahane's return has become very difficult.
There is little chance of left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan returning to the Indian team. Shikhar was dropped from the Test team long ago but then he remained a part of the T20 and ODI team. However, after this Dhawan was dropped from the T20 team in 2021 and then he was not given a place in the team again after the ODI series against Bangladesh in late 2022. During this time he was also kept out of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. India now has many options for opening and that is why we may not see Shikhar playing in the blue jersey again.
