Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was welcomed in a traditional manner at his Mumbai residence following India‘s historic ICC T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados. This emotional homecoming marked a fitting end to Suryakumar’s remarkable journey, which saw him starring in India’s second T20 World Cup title win.
An open-top bus procession from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium, which drew thousands of ardent fans, marked the continuation of the festivities in Mumbai.
Suryakumar’s family welcomed him home with open arms. In accordance with Indian customs, his mother bestowed a garland onto him and carried out an aarti, applying a tikka on his forehead. The celebratory atmosphere was further enhanced by the dhol performers that Suryakumar’s family had arranged.
In the final over of the T20 World Cup final, Suryakumar Yadav pulled off a sensational catch to dismiss David Miller and snatch victory from South Africa’s grasp. With 16 runs needed off the last over, Hardik Pandya bowled a low full-toss on the first ball. Miller lofted it over long-off, looking to dispatch the ball for a six.
However, Suryakumar was positioned near the boundary and displayed remarkable presence of mind. Keeping his feet millimetres from the boundary cushion, he juggled the catch and stepped over the ropes to secure the ball.
The triumphant Indian cricket team was celebrated at Wankhede Stadium, where BCCI awarded them a prize of 125 crore rupees. The joyous event included player speeches, cultural performances, and a victory lap set to the stirring notes of ‘Vande Mataram’, capturing the patriotic pride and elation of the nation.
