India newcomer Abhishek Sharma video-called his mentor Yuvraj Singh and his family to share his excitement after scoring a thunderous century against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on July 7th. Abhishek’s family was elated as they celebrated his achievement via a video call, congratulating him on the impressive feat.

The 23-year-old also connected with his mentor and former India player Yuvraj Singh, who hailed Abhishek’s 46-ball hundred in the youngster’s second match for the national team.

The BCCI shared a special interview with Abhishek Sharma after his match-winning performance for India in his second international appearance. The young opener revealed that he had used his close friend and opening partner Shubman Gill‘s bat for the match.

Abhishek shared that after hitting a few boundaries with Gill’s bat, he knew it was his day and he made the most of the opportunity. His stellar play earned him the Player of the Match award as India leveled the series 1-1 with a dominant 100-run victory over the hosts.

“Well done; I’m quite happy. You were worthy of it. “This is just the beginning, there will be many more,” Yuvraj noted in the video chat with Abhishek Sharma.

“After the match, I called Yuvi paji, and to my surprise, he was elated. He expressed that it was a good start, which I believe made him proud, just as my family is. I’m overjoyed, as this success is largely due to Yuvi paji’s unwavering support and guidance over the past 2-3 years. He has dedicated himself tirelessly, not just to improving my cricket skills, but also to my overall development off the field. This is truly a special occasion,” he claimed.

After a duck in his India debut, Abhishek Sharma bounced back with a blistering hundred in the very next match – the third-fastest T20I century for India. He brought up his maiden T20I fifty in just 33 balls, and then converted it into his first-ever ton in the following 13 deliveries. Capping off the innings in style, the explosive opener smashed three consecutive sixes to reach the milestone.
