Although one has to wait for 4 years, this time the wait of Olympic fans is going to end in just 3 years. The Olympic Games will begin at the end of this month in Paris, the capital of France. All the countries are busy in their final preparations for Paris 2024. After the good performance of Indian players in the last Olympics, expectations from the Paris Games have increased even more. Especially, more eyes will be on giants like Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu and Achanta Sharat Kamal. Apart from the responsibility of bringing medals, Sindhu and Sharat Kamal will have another responsibility and that is to lead the Indian team in the opening ceremony.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President and former legendary athlete PT Usha on Monday, July 8, announced the name of star badminton player PV Sindhu as the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent at the Olympic Games. Like every Olympics, any contingent has one male and one female flag bearer. Sindhu will be the female flag-bearer of the Indian contingent. Veteran table tennis star Sharath Kamal will be the male flag-bearer. His name had already been announced.
Apart from all this, the IOA president made another important announcement. Former Olympic medalist and veteran shooter Gagan Narang will be India's 'Chef de Mission' in the Paris Games. Earlier this responsibility was given to veteran boxer MC Mary Kom but she herself withdrew her name amid controversies. Now just before the games start, the Olympic Association has handed over this responsibility to Narang. Narang, who won the bronze in rifle shooting in the London Olympics 2012, was earlier going only as an official of the shooting team but now he will be the head of the entire Olympic contingent.
The Chef de Mission is the most important officer of the entire team of any country, who takes care of the needs of the players and handles all kinds of official work. This time there is hope of improvement in India's performance in the Olympics. In Tokyo 2020, Indian players performed their best ever and won 7 medals. The biggest medal in this was won by Neeraj Chopra. He created history by winning the gold medal in javelin throw. This was independent India's first medal in athletics.
Apart from this, India also won a medal in hockey after 41 years. Apart from this, India also won a medal in hockey after 41 years.
