Sunil Gavaskar was the first batsman in the history of cricket to complete 10,000 runs in Test matches.

Sunil Gavaskar hit 34 Test centuries in his career. For the longest time it was the most number of hundreds in the history of Test cricket before Gavaskar's disciple Sachin Tendulkar finally broke the record.

Sunil Gavaskar made his international debut during India's tour of the West Indies in the 1974/75 season. In that series Gavaskar played four of the five Test matches and ended up accumulating 774 runs. To date it remains the most runs scored by a batter in his debut Test series.

Sine making his debut in 1975, Gavaskar played 106 straight Tests for India. It makes him the Indian cricketer who has played most consecutive Test matches.

Sunil Gavaskar loved playing against the West Indies and in his career he scored 13 Test centuries against the Windies. Gavaskar's 13 Test tons against the West Indies remains the most by a batsman against the team.

Sunil Gavaskar took 108 catches in Test matches. When he took his 100th catch in Test cricket it made him first Indian fielder (who was not a wicket-keeper) to hold the record of having more than hundred catches in the format.
