Delhi: Former Indian cricket team opener Gautam Gambhir is set to replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Team India. He will start his tenure with the limited overs series against Sri Lanka later this month. Earlier, Gambhir has expressed his views on injury management and workload of the players.
42-year-old Gautam Gambhir has said that he does not support policies like injury management for players. He believes that if a player is in form, he should play in all formats.
Gambhir said in a conversation with a sports channel, “I always emphasize that if you are good and in form, you should play in all three formats. I have never been in favor of injury management. If you are injured, go and recover from it and come back. You are playing international cricket and are capable too. Big players want to play in all formats. They never like to be a red ball or white ball player.”
This former opener said that getting injured is a part of the life of players. He further said, “Getting injured is a part of the life of players. If you are playing in all three formats, then you can get injured. In such a situation, you have to go into the recovery period and play in all three formats after recovering. I am not in favor of the thing that we will keep this player for the test and focus on him for other formats and injury management of the players.”

Gautam means that Gambhir will become the youngest head coach of the Indian team. He said that it is important for a professional player to play as much as possible in his career, because his career is quite limited. Gautam said, “The career of professional cricketers is quite short, when you are playing for your country, you want to play as many matches as possible, when you are in good form, you should play in all three formats.”
