He has never had any experience of playing cricket. But his story matches with two big giants of Indian cricket - Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. Just like Sachin and Ganguly made a name for themselves in cricket. This player posted as a Subedar in the Indian Army is making his name known in the boxing ring. His name is Amit Panghal. Paris Olympics will be Amit's second Olympics. Earlier in Tokyo Olympics, he had entered as the world number 1 boxer in his 52 kg category. However, there he could not get a medal. In such a situation, this time the country is hoping that Amit will not return empty handed from Paris.
Now the question is how is Amit Panghal's story similar to that of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly? So this story is connected to his elder brother. Just like Sachin and Sourav's elder brother has played a big role in their cricketing life, similarly Amit Panghal's elder brother Ajay has played a big role in inspiring him to become a boxer. Amit Panghal's elder brother has also been a boxer himself. Just like Amit is a Subedar in the Indian Army, his elder brother Ajay is also associated with the Indian Army. Then in the year 2007, that opportunity came when inspired by his elder brother Ajay, Amit Panghal joined Sir Chhotu Ram Academy and his journey of becoming a boxer started.
Amit Panghal, who is 5 feet 2 inches tall, gradually started becoming proficient in the ring game. Time passed and then in 2017 the day came when he stepped into the ring of the National Boxing Championship. With his debut in this ring, he won the gold medal. Meaning Amit became the national champion. By winning bronze in the Asian Boxing Championship in the same year, he qualified for the World Boxing Championship, where he had to face defeat in the quarter-finals.
In 2018, Amit Panghal entered the ring of Commonwealth Games for the first time, where he won silver for India. In 2019, he became the Asian Champion. In the same year, he became the first Indian boxer to win a silver medal in the World Boxing Championship. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Amit Panghal entered as the world number one boxer. However, despite being the top seed, he did not succeed in winning a medal. In the year 2022, Amit Panghal became the Commonwealth Champion.

Coming from a farmer family, Amit Panghal may be a famous boxer today, but his childhood was spent in struggles. There was a time when he did not even have shoes to wear, let alone boxing. After becoming a boxer, he had to struggle for good shoes. An incident related to his shoes is from 2017, when he went to Germany to participate in the World Championship. There, Amit Panghal liked boxing shoes very much in a shop.
But the problem was that he did not have money to buy it. Now he did not have money. But the shoes were so much liked that he had to buy them. Therefore, Panghal decided to borrow them. In such a situation, he bought those shoes by borrowing them from his fellow boxer Kavindra Bisht. Wearing the same shoes, he played in the World Championship that year.Nowadays, the craze for tattoos has increased among players. Indian cricketers are the leaders in this. But the tattoo that Amit Panghal has got on his back is very special. This tattoo is actually of his grandfather. Amit Panghal told in an interview that he was very close to his grandfather and he is living his dreams. Amit Panghal's grandfather Jagaram Panghal was also posted as a captain in the Indian Army. Now he is no more in this world but in his honor Amit Panghal has got a tattoo on his back.
