BCCI secretary Jay Shah instructs release of Rs 1 crore to former India cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad for cancer treatment

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has instructed the apex body to release Rs 1 crore to former India cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who is battling blood cancer.

According to sources, Shah spoke to Gaekwad’s family. Gaekwad is currently admitted to the King’s College Hospital in London.

“BCCI stands by Gaekwad’s family and the board will do whatever is important for his recovery. The BCCI will continue to monitor his progress and is confident that he will get” the BCCI Apex Council stated.

Gaekwad played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs, scoring over 2000 runs.

Kapil Dev and other legendary cricketers had urged the BCCI to help Anshuman Gaekwad.

The 71-year-old Gaekwad was Team India’s head coach in two stints and also led the national team that made it to the final of the 2000 ICC Knockout Trophy.
