Delhi: Veteran Indian team leg-spinner Amit Mishra has said that he is confident that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will look for a better captain than KL Rahul. He said that it is important that the franchise appoints a captain who has the right mindset for T20 cricket.

Amit said that the IPL captain does not necessarily have to be a part of the Indian T20 team, but he should be able to understand the pulse of the shortest format of the game and be a team player. LSG made it to the playoffs in its first two seasons (2022 and 2023).

Amit Mishra said during a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, “It does not matter whether he is in the Indian team or not, but a person with the right mindset for T20 should be the captain, the one who plays for the team should be the captain. I am sure LSG will look for a better captain.”

Mishra said that he was disappointed when Lucknow was defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 10 wickets in Hyderabad. LSG scored 165 runs in 20 overs, after which SRH achieved the target without losing any wicket and with 10 wickets remaining.

After the match, LSG co-owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen chatting with captain KL Rahul, expressing his disappointment over the one-sided defeat. Later, Goenka invited Rahul to his home for dinner to quell the rumours and speculations that were spread after the on-field interaction.

What did Mishra say about Goenka?

Mishra, who played for LSG in 2024, said, “Goenka was disappointed. We lost two consecutive matches badly. Against KKR we lost by 90-100 runs and against SRH the match was over in just 10 overs. It felt like we were bowling to them during a net practice session. If I am so angry about this, won’t someone who has actually invested money in the team be angry?”

He further said, “It was not a big deal, but later I came to know that he had said that the bowling was very poor and the team should have struggled a bit. It seemed that the team had surrendered completely, but I think people and the media exaggerated it a bit.”
