Team India T20I Captain SL Tour: In the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, India won the trophy by defeating South Africa in the final. Team India ended the 11-year ICC trophy drought under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. However, after the final, first Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 International and then Rohit also did so. For this reason, now the team is looking for a new T20 captain. The young team went on the Zimbabwe tour and the captaincy was handed over to Shubman Gill, but some senior players will also return in the T20 series to be played on the Sri Lanka tour from July 27. For this reason, there will be a change in the captaincy as well.

Hardik Pandya will captain the T20 series against Sri Lanka

According to a PTI report, Hardik Pandya, who was the vice-captain in the presence of Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup, will be given the captaincy in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. A senior BCCI source said on the condition of anonymity, “Hardik Pandya was India's T20 vice-captain under Rohit Sharma. He is fully fit and available for the three-match T20 series and will captain the team.”

Let us tell you that the T20 international matches against Sri Lanka will be played in Pallekele from July 27 to 30, while the ODIs will be played in Colombo from August 2 to 7. Team India for the series can be announced in the next few days.

Hardik will not be a part of the ODI series

Hardik Pandya will be a part of the T20 matches on the Sri Lanka tour but he has declared himself unavailable for the ODI series and has also informed the BCCI about this. Regarding Hardik not playing in the ODI series, the source said, “His break from ODIs is due to very personal reasons. There is no problem with Hardik's fitness, as is being reported in the media.”

It is worth noting that Hardik Pandya has not played ODI cricket for a long time. He played his last 50-over format game during the ODI World Cup last year and then was out due to injury. After this, he made a comeback from IPL 2024 and then played the T20 World Cup, in which his performance was excellent.
