A BCCI source told PTI, “Hardik Pandya was the vice-captain of the Indian T20 team under Rohit Sharma. He is fully fit for the three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka and was a contender for the captaincy of the team. But there is a strong possibility that Suryakumar will be the captain, not only for the Sri Lanka series but till the 2026 World Cup.”

It is worth noting that the Indian team for the T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka can be announced on Wednesday (17 July). Pandya will not be available for selection in the ODI series due to personal reasons.
