Shreyas Iyer will return to international cricket with the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He was not considered for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and was last seen in action during the Kolkata Knight Riders.

His last international appearance came against Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The BCCI punished Iyer for refusing to play in one of the Ranji Trophy matches. Along with Ishan Kishan, Iyer was not offered a central contract.

He led KKR to the IPL 2024 title and was lauded for his brilliant captaincy. According to the Indian Express, the apex body of Indian cricket will include him in the contract list after he is included in the side for the fifty-over games.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will also play in the ODIs. Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach, wants the two senior players to be a part of the team, as there are hardly a few games lined up before the Champions Trophy in 2025. Jasprit Bumrah is the only player permitted a break.

On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to lead India in the T20Is against Sri Lanka.
