Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was caught off guard in the pre-Women’s Asia Cup press conference by a question about the limited media coverage of the Indian women’s team’s recent bilateral series in Bangladesh.

All team captains attended the pre-tournament press conference on July 19, ahead of the upcoming multi-national event. A journalist then questioned whether women’s cricket is viewed as a serious sport, given the limited media coverage of the recent series.

“The perceived lack of importance placed on women’s cricket, especially following the Bangladesh tour, has sparked concerns. With fewer journalists attending press conferences, what are your thoughts on this issue?” questioned the journalist.

Despite being stunned, Harmanpreet responded with a composed and confident smile, delivering a fitting retort.

“That’s none of my business. You are the one’s who’s going to come and provide coverage for us,” she replied with a smile.

The Indian women’s cricket team arrived in Dambulla on Tuesday evening to compete in the Asia Cup. Ahead of the tournament in Sri Lanka, Kaur saw the upcoming tournament in Sri Lanka as a vital preparation opportunity for the T20 World Cup later this year.

“This tournament holds great significance for us, as we are committed to performing at the highest level on both the Asian and global stages. Our focus will remain unwavering as we prepare for the T20 World Cup and other major tournaments. We understand the importance of each game and will strive to give our absolute best effort in every match,”
she stated.

India, the defending and most successful champions in Asia Cup history, will open their campaign against Nida Dar’s Pakistan team on Friday, July 19.
