Team India’s former batting coach Vikram Rathour has said that Shubman Gill is a future captaincy prospect. Rathour feels Gill has the talent and skills to become the skipper across formats for the Indian team. Vikram was impressed with Shubman when he saw his batting for the first time. Gill is the new vice-captain in white-ball cricket.
“When I first saw him in the nets, I was impressed. He is a special talent and can serve the Indian cricket for a long time. He knows how to bat in different situations and doesn’t run away from challenges,” Rathour told the Indian Express.
Gill led the Men in Blue to a 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe in T20Is. He accumulated 170 runs at a strike-rate of 125.93 at an average of 42.50.
Shubman admitted that the captaincy impacts his performance in a positive way. He will be Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
“I feel leadership brought the best out of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and it will also help Shubman Gill. He is still not India”s captain but being in the leadership group will make him learn about the traits of captaincy. When you are given a responsibility, it helps young cricketers. It is great for a player like Gill. He is likely to lead India in all the three formats.”
