Former India player Kris Srikkanth is not in favor of Hemang Badani becoming the Chennai Super Kings head coach. According to him, MS Dhoni is enough and can head the support staff of the franchise in the next season. After Stephen Fleming’s exit, several names have been linked with the five-time IPL champions, with Badani also in the fray. He is the current head coach of the  Delhi Capitals, but the team has failed to reach the playoffs.

With the ownership of DC changing for the next two years, JSW is expected to make changes to the support staff. Sourav Ganguly is likely to replace Badani, with Yuvraj Singh getting the post of assistant coach.

Srikkanth doesn’t want to see Badani joining the CSK, saying he is not fit for the role.

“Hemang Badani shouldn’t be CSK’s head coach. He didn’t achieve anything with DC. I don’t know why CSK should hire him. He is not special as a coach. When you have MS Dhoni in the group, you don’t need to look at someone else. Dhoni is enough as head coach,”  said Srikkanth.

He suggested the name of former Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Chandrakant Pandit if Dhoni wants to work with the Indian coach.

“If Dhoni wants an Indian coach, then Chandrakant Pandit is a good option. He is a good guy and has won trophies. CSK should appoint an India as coach. Either the coach must have played a lot of international cricket or achieved big as a coach in domestic tournaments or IPL,” said Srikkanth.

Chennai should take time

Srikkanth said that there is no need for Chennai to take a decision in hurry. “It is good that CSK are taking time. There is no need to conclude in a hurry. The auction is in December so they have plenty of time left. They shouldn’t rush at all and should think before making the decision,” he added.

The next auction is scheduled to be held in December, giving the most successful franchise enough time to select the right candidate.
