India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan said that calmness and good teamwork are needed to switch from one format to another in cricket. He scored 42 and stitched a 121-run stand with Abhishek Sharma in India’s seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in the first T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. “We have to adapt as soon as possible. We have to get into that zone as we are not it for the first time.

“We keep competing in different formats, and we have also come back to T20 cricket.

It takes time to get going, but you need to be composed and calm to give your best performance,” Kishan said in a BCCI video.

He also opened up on his stand with opening batter Abhishek, saying that they decide about their roles based on who has the momentum. “I played like an ODI because Abhishek was hitting from the other end. I wanted Abhishek to carry without thinking about the fall of wickets from the other end.

“If Abhishek is not in the rhythm, I take up the role of aggressor. It is about the teamwork in the end.

It is difficult to get in the T20 zone in a day or two.

“You try and give your best, and there will be hard times, but you need to work on your mistakes in every game,” he added.

Kishan mentioned that videos of opposite bowlers and discussions with teammates help in improving flaws.

“It is more about me as I look at the videos of the bowlers who will bowl in the match. You have to be in your zone in your room as well. When you are sitting and chilling with your teammates, you can discuss your game, the changes needed, and the shots you can play.

“At the end of the day, it is your calmness that helps you.

If you are not thinking about hitting a particular area and you think about watching the ball before playing the shots, these things help. It is something that is important for a batter.

“Sometimes you are in the zone and keep hitting the ball, which impacts your momentum. When you talk to your teammates, you can improve every day.”

Kishan has been playing regular cricket and the southpaw is tired. He revealed his schedule ahead of India’s second T20I against Afghanistan on Tuesday. “I am going to rest, and I won’t do anything. I will have a workout session before the next game.

I am not going to leave my bed for the next two days because I am tired. I am going to bed,” he concluded.
