The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clarified that it has not proposed an offshore T20I series against India. Instead, the PCB’s current focus is on ensuring the smooth operation of the upcoming Champions Trophy.
There are rumors that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has discussed the possibility of a T20I series with BCCI officials, potentially to be held at an offshore venue in either England or Australia.
“Hosting the upcoming Champions Trophy smoothly is the organization’s top priority. Our packed international schedule leaves no capacity to consider any other proposals at this time,” stated a source.
According to the source, PCB’s two main objectives at the ICC meetings in Colombo were: 1) to get the budget approved for the Champions Trophy, and 2) to secure assurances from the ICC and BCCI that India would send their team to Pakistan for the event.
“Our primary focus at the moment is on this agenda. We have no plans to pursue any bilateral series with India,” he added.
Since 2012, India has suspended all bilateral cricket series with Pakistan. The two countries have not played a Test series against each other since Pakistan’s tour of India in 2007. Furthermore, there are ongoing speculations about India potentially requesting to play its Champions Trophy matches outside of Pakistan, casting uncertainty over the team’s participation in the tournament.
