in 25 matches which has led to 16 victories. Speaking about England's batting approach in recent times, Pope revealed that there's extra bit of hunger to be ruthless in their batting line up.
"There's a real hunger - there always is a hunger - but now there's an extra bit in that batting line-up.
We want to be as ruthless as we can as a batting unit, but still play the way we do because that's our natural game. Obviously being ruthless is being part of Test cricket as well," Pope told ICC.
Further speaking ahead, Pope said that the England batters haven't been asked to play aggressively but it's their natural game. The England batter also expects them to play to score 600 runs in the future soon.
"I got asked on day one 'do you get told to play like that?'.
No, we don't. It's just our natural games and the way we go about it. Sometimes we might score 280-300 in a day but that's OK and probably because we're reading situations. There might also be a day where we go and get 500 to 600 at some point in the future as well. And that's a cool thing to have," he added.
England aiming to whitewash West Indies
The Ben Stokes' led side already holds the record for most runs scored on Day 1 of a Test match achieved on December 1, 2022 against Pakistan.
The Three Lions posted a massive score of 506/4 on the opening day to surpass Australia's 494/6 achieved against Australia in 1910.
England also hold the record for most runs scored in a single day in Test cricket achieved way back in 1936 against India and Manchester when they scored 588/6 on Day 2. Ben Stokes' England could well pass that score again as they have series lined up against Sri Lanka and Pakistan after the West Indies whom they will take on in the third Test from July 26 at Edgbaston Birmingham.
