Sri Lanka’s young pacer Matheesha Pathirana has spoken about the role of Chennai Super Kings in his career. The pacer hogged the limelight during the 2022 U-19 World Cup for his slinging action, and the CSK signed him as a replacement player for New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne in IPL 2022. He played just two matches in that season but got a maiden international call-up for Sri Lanka,
In the last couple of seasons, he has taken 32 wickets in 18 matches.
Ahead of the T20I series against India, Pathirana hailed CSK for helping him get the attention of the selectors and for giving him the experience of sharing the dressing room with MS Dhoni.
“After my under-19s, I didn’t make it to any squads in Sri Lanka. After my debut for CSK, I played for the national team. Playing for CSK is a gift from god, and sharing the dressing room with MS Dhoni is very special for me,” Pathirana said on Sportstar.
He has managed to breach the mark of 150 kmph. The 21-year-old feels that it would be a massive thing if Sri Lanka beat India in the upcoming series.
“India is coming with a new coach and new players. It will be a good challenge for us. We have a good side, and if we manage to beat India, it would be massive for us. It will be a confidence booster for us,” he added.
