Shubman Gill did not just produce another breathtaking innings on Wednesday night. He created a record that had never been achieved in international cricket before.

The Indian captain smashed an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls against West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati, becoming the first captain to score a double century in both Test and ODI cricket. Gill had previously scored 269 against England at Edgbaston in 2025, making his latest feat a unique chapter in the history of captaincy.

What made the Guwahati innings even more remarkable was the situation. West Indies had posted 405/7, their first-ever 400-plus ODI total, after centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo.
India then chased down 406 in just 43.3 overs, winning by eight wickets with 39 balls to spare.
