India all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana have suffered fresh injury setbacks, ruling them out of competitive cricket for some time, a report said. Both are currently at the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, rehabilitating from injuries, and their participation in India's upcoming tour of New Zealand now looks highly uncertain.
Hardik Pandya has been out of action since the end of IPL 2026, while Harshit has not represented India since the T20I series in England earlier this year. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, both have suffered setbacks in their rehabilitation, putting their participation in the New Zealand series in serious doubt.
Hardik has reportedly made good strides in his recovery and has completed his batting, bowling and fielding workloads, but the all-rounder has suffered pain in his right calf during a match simulation at the CoE.
Following an MRI scan, Hardik has reportedly been placed on vitamin D medication for at least eight weeks as a part of his treatment. He will also be placed on bisphosphonate therapy as a part of his recovery process, which further adds complexity to his timeline for making a return to competitive cricket.
Harshit, meanwhile, has suffered a setback during his rehabilitation. The report stated that the pace-bowling all-rounder faced low-grade pain in his left quadriceps during the match simulation.
The 24-year-old also developed a fever, sore throat and cold. He will reportedly be eased back into action only after making a complete recovery from these issues, which further adds complexity to his availability for the upcoming assignment.
India's white-ball tour in New Zealand is set to begin on October 22 and extend until November 15.
The tour comprises five T20Is and five ODIs, before the teams meet in a two-Test series. The first Test is scheduled to be played in Wellington from November 19 to 23, which will then be followed by the second Test in Christchurch from November 27 to December 1.
The Test series will also have significance in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. New Zealand currently sit third in the standings, while India are fifth, making the two matches important for both teams' campaigns.
New Zealand have already revealed their squad for the five-match T20I series, with Mitchell Santner named captain of the 16-member group.
