The world record set by Shaheen Shah Afridi has been broken. It was broken by a player who was born in Pakistan. He played cricket for Peshawar. But, he is now playing international cricket from Oman. We are talking about Bilal Khan, who has now become the fastest fast bowler to take 100 wickets in ODIs. This world record was earlier in the name of Shaheen Afridi. The special thing is that like Shaheen, Bilal is also a left-arm fast bowler.
37-year-old Bilal Khan achieved the feat of taking the fastest 100 wickets in ODIs in a match played against Namibia on 24 July.
In the League 2 match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, Bilal took 3 wickets for 50 runs in 10 overs. During these 3 wickets, he broke Shaheen's world record.Shaheen Shah Afridi completed the wicket of 100 batsmen in his 51st ODI. While Bilal Khan has done the same feat 2 matches before him i.e. in his 49th ODI. Bilal Khan currently has 101 wickets. When Shaheen Afridi made the world record, he broke the record of Mitchell Starc, who had achieved this feat in the 52nd ODI.
Bilal is also the first fast bowler to take 100 wickets in less than 50 matches.Among the overall bowlers, Bilal Khan is the third fastest bowler to complete 100 ODI wickets. Afghanistan's spinner Rashid Khan has achieved the feat of taking 100 wickets in ODI cricket in just 42 matches. The second place in the list is held by Nepal's spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who took 100 wickets in ODIs in 44 matches.
Bilal, who has taken 100 plus wickets in ODI cricket, also has 110 wickets in T20 International, which he has achieved in 79 matches.
Bilal Khan is a bowler from Oman but he was born in Peshawar, Pakistan in 1987. He also played first class cricket from Peshawar between 2007 and 2009. But, due to lack of opportunities, he moved to Oman. After living there for 4 years, he got citizenship and then started playing for Oman.
