SA20 Season 5 squads: Full list of players for all six teams after auction
The SA20 Season 5 squads have taken shape following the Player Auction in Johannesburg on October 7, with a mix of established international stars, experienced Proteas and promising young South African talent set to feature in the fifth edition of the tournament.
Four franchises — Joburg Super Kings , MI Cape Town, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape — went into the auction with slots to fill, while Durban’s Super Giants and Paarl Royals had already completed their squads.
The auction produced several high-profile moves, with former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis returning to Joburg Super Kings for R2.7 million, while Kieron Pollard was also picked up by the franchise for R1.5 million.
However, the biggest purchase of the day was 18-year-old Jason Rowles, who fetched R2.9 million after a bidding battle between Joburg Super Kings and MI Cape Town.
MI Cape Town added Proteas all-rounder Wiaan Mulder for R2.6 million and West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer for R1.5 million, while Pretoria Capitals brought in Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape completed their squad with the additions of Nandre Burger and England all-rounder Craig Overton.
SA20 Season 5 begins on January 17, 2027, with defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape taking on Pretoria Capitals at St George’s Park in Gqeberha in a repeat of last season’s final.
SA20 Season 5 squads Durban’s Super Giants squad
Durban’s Super Giants had already completed their 19-player squad before the auction.
It includes Sam Curran, Jos Buttler, Devon Conway, Liam Livingstone, Sunil Narine, Kane Williamson and Aiden Markram. Heinrich Klaasen is the franchise’s wildcard player.

Joburg Super Kings made the biggest splash at the auction, bringing back Faf du Plessis to the Wanderers after a bidding battle with MI Cape Town.
The former Proteas captain cost R2.7 million.
Kieron Pollard was another major addition at R1.5 million, while teenager Jason Rowles became the auction’s most expensive player at R2.9 million. JSK also added US-based batter Andries Gous and Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani.

MI Cape Town reshaped their squad with several significant additions. Wiaan Mulder was their biggest buy at R2.6 million, while Shimron Hetmyer arrived for R1.5 million.
Trent Boult also returned to the franchise, while 21-year-old Oliver Whitehead was added to the squad. Kagiso Rabada retains his position as the wildcard.

Three-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape completed their 19-player squad at the auction with the additions of Proteas left-arm seamer Nandre Burger and England all-rounder Craig Overton.
They join an already formidable bowling attack featuring Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Adam Milne and Lutho Sipamla. Tristan Stubbs, Quinton de Kock and Mitchell Marsh are among the key names in the squad.
