Jasprit Bumrah thinks fast bowlers are smarter than batters because they have to think a lot about dismissing a willow holder. He has led India on a few occasions, and many feel he has the skills to become the skipper of the national team. However, the speedster said that it was out of his control.
“I can’t decide about leading the Indian team. It is not under my control, and it is above my pay grade,” he told the Indian Express.
The world’s best fast bowler is of the opinion that pacers are always good captains.
“I have seen Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis captaining the side. Kapil Dev and Imran Khan won the World Cup as captains. Pat Cummins is doing really well. I think that captaincy is more often given to the batters because bowlers go through a lot in terms of pressure on their bodies. To avoid this, batters are given more responsibility. It doesn’t change my thinking that bowlers are smart people,” he added.
Bumrah is currently enjoying an extended break after helping India win the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024. He missed the Zimbabwe series and has been rested from the tour of Sri Lanka.
