Delhi: Former wicketkeeper-batsman of the Indian cricket team, Parthiv Patel was considered to be the frontrunner for the post of Chief Selector of BCCI, but he has not yet applied for this post. Amidst the discussion regarding the appointment of a new chief selector in place of Ajit Agarkar, this decision of Parthiv has surprised everyone.

BCCI had started the application process for the post of Chief Selector on 6 October.

The last date for submission of applications was 14 October till 5 pm. According to PTI report, Parthiv Patel did not apply till the stipulated deadline. Now he will be able to apply for this post only when the board decides to extend the date of application.

Who will handle the responsibility of selection of Team India in place of Parthiv Patel?

At present, South Zone selector Pragyan Ojha is performing the responsibility of interim chief selector. He has got this responsibility on the basis of playing the maximum number of test matches in the selection committee.

Looking at the current situation, it is believed that Parthiv Patel can remain associated with the coaching setup of Gujarat Titans and can also continue his commentary responsibilities. In such a situation, there is a possibility of Pragyan Ojha remaining the Chief Selector for the remaining tenure.

Ramesh Powar and Sameer Dighe also join the race

According to PTI report, former Mumbai Indian women's team coach Ramesh Powar can also join the race for the post of senior selector. It was believed that he might get the responsibility of Junior Men's Selection Committee, but now his name is also in discussion for the post of Chief Selector from West Zone.

Former Indian wicketkeeper batsman Sameer Dighe is also among the possible candidates for this post. According to the report, both Powar and Dighe have applied for the post of Chief Selector. Now it has to be seen to whom BCCI hands over this important responsibility.
