Delhi: Delhi Capitals' problems may increase before IPL 2027. Australia's legendary fast bowler Mitchell Starc has not yet taken his decision about playing in the next season. The biggest reason for this is Australia's busy Test schedule and the Ashes series against England.

Starc has not decided on playing in IPL 2027

According to the report of CODE Sports, Mitchell Starc has not yet taken a final decision regarding his participation in IPL 2027.

He can play for Delhi Capitals, but it is yet to be confirmed. Delhi will prepare for the next season under the leadership of the team's new head coach Sourav Ganguly.

36-year-old Starc's workload and Australia's schedule of international matches will play an important role in his decision. He played for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 and became a part of Delhi Capitals in the 2025 season. His return after being away from IPL for a long time made a lot of headlines.

Starc gives priority to Test cricket

Mitchell Starc is one of those players who, despite the attractive offers of franchise cricket, have given more importance to playing Test cricket for their country.

He did not play in IPL from 2016 to 2023. During this time, he gave up the opportunity to earn a huge amount, but described his decision as important in terms of personal life and cricket career.

Delhi's worries may increase due to Ashes series

Australia has to play a five-match Ashes Test series against England in 2027. This series will start from June 18 at Trent Bridge. Subsequent matches will be played at Lord's, Edgbaston, Southampton and The Oval.

The last test of the series is scheduled from 29 July to 2 August.

Apart from this, if Australia reaches the final of the World Test Championship, its schedule will become more hectic. The final is proposed to be held at The Oval between 9 and 13 June. In such a situation, Starc may have to pay special attention to his fitness and preparation before the England tour.

Although the IPL is usually held before England's Test summer, the pressure of playing consistent cricket may prompt Starc to limit his involvement in franchise cricket.

Why is Starc important for Delhi Capitals?

Starc is known for his fast pace, left-handed bowling and his ability to take wickets with the new ball.

His experience can be useful for the team even in the death overs. His playing for Delhi Capitals will prove to be a strength to the bowling attack.
