India's opening batter Abhishek Sharma keeps scaling new heights in T20I cricket. On Wednesday, during the fourth T20I against the West Indies, he added another world record to his name.
Abhishek launched his 69th six of 2026, overtaking former India captain Suryakumar Yadav's tally of 68, which was set in 2022. With six more T20Is still to be played this year, the opener has a genuine chance of pushing that number past 100.
Most sixes in a calendar year (full-member nations):
Abhishek Sharma – 69 (2026)
Suryakumar Yadav – 68 (2022)
Abhishek Sharma – 54 (2025)
Ishan Kishan – 52 (2026)
In the previous match, Abhishek also became the sixth Indian to cross 2,000 T20I runs.
India's 2,000-run club now features: Rohit Sharma (4,231 runs), Virat Kohli (4,188 runs), Suryakumar Yadav (3,272 runs), Hardik Pandya (2,288 runs) and KL Rahul (2,265 runs).
Despite a few quiet patches, 2026 has been a standout year for Abhishek. He has amassed 950 runs in 33 matches and innings, averaging over 29 with a strike rate above 206.
He has one century and eight fifties to his name, and his career-best 108 remains the fastest T20I hundred by a batter from a Test-playing nation.
In Hyderabad, though, Abhishek could manage only 29 off 24 balls as India fell short by 24 runs. Chasing 248, Sanju Samson got India off to a flyer with a 20-ball fifty. But once he departed, wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals.Tilak Varma (43) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (41) chipped in with quickfire cameos, but India couldn't get over the line. The win helped West Indies level the five-match series at 2-2. The decider will be played in Bengaluru
