Jasprit Bumrah is on cloud nine after clinching the T20 World Cup 2024. He was named Player of the Tournament for his exceptional performances throughout their victorious campaign. Bumrah has played under various captains during his illustrious career, including MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. However, the star fast bowler has not named any of these stalwarts as his favorite captain.
At an event organized by The Indian Express, Bumrah was asked to name the greatest Indian captain in history. In response, the pacer stated that his personal favorite captain has always been himself.
This is likely due to the 30-year old’s own experience as a stand-in captain for India – he has previously captained the team in a Test match against England in 2022, as well as a T20I series against Ireland. Many experts believe Bumrah could be a future Test captain for the Men in Blue.
“My favorite captain has always been myself. I have captained a few games, and while there are certainly great captains out there, I’m going to put my name forward as a contender for that title,” stated Bumrah.
The star bowler also highlighted his experience playing under the leadership MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“When I made my debut, MS Dhoni provided me with a strong sense of security, as he believed in relying on instincts. Virat’s energetic and passionate approach pushed the team to excel in fitness. Rohit empathized deeply with the players, showing a profound understanding of their emotions and experiences. Through the collective efforts of these leaders, Indian cricket has been propelled forward,” he added.
“Rohit Sharma cultivates an inclusive team culture that values each player equally, regardless of experience level. He empowers the younger members, making them feel that this is their team and that they are integral to its success. As a player, I feel extremely fortunate to have played under his leadership for an extended period,” he continued.
