Delhi: These days there is a lot of debate going on in the cricket world about whether India will tour Pakistan next year to play the Champions Trophy under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. All the countries except India have agreed to play the 'Champions Trophy' in Pakistan, but due to security reasons, India's tour of Pakistan seems difficult. According to sources, BCCI has requested ICC to play the 'Champions Trophy' in Sri Lanka or Dubai under the 'hybrid model'. But Pakistan is continuously opposing the 'hybrid model'. Meanwhile, former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed concern over the possibility of Team India going to Pakistan in the 'ICC Champions Trophy 2025'.
Harbhajan has commented on the current security situation in Pakistan. Harbhajan argues that the current security situation in Pakistan is not good at all. In such a situation, the Indian team's visit to Pakistan is a warning signal. Harbhajan supports the move of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take government approval before finalizing the Indian team's participation in the Champions Trophy. The BCCI has not yet given any fresh statement on this matter.
Why should the Indian team go to Pakistan?
Talking to the media, Harbhajan Singh said that, 'There is concern about safety in Pakistan. The situation in Pakistan is such that terrorist incidents happen there almost every day. I don't think Pakistan is safe for Team India. BCCI's stance is absolutely correct and nothing is more important than the safety of our players. I support BCCI's stance.'.
'5 star hotel' in Pakistan for Indian team
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has assured that if the Indian team comes to Pakistan to play the 'Champions Trophy', all their matches will be held at the 'Gaddafi Stadium' in Lahore. During this time, Team India will stay in the same hotel. The PCB has also said that keeping the team in the same city will lead to more effective and safe arrangements for the visiting team. The PCB has recently announced land acquisition for the construction of a 5-star hotel near the Gaddafi Cricket Stadium in Lahore.
According to Pakistani media, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to build a hotel in Lahore and aims to have it ready by early next year. This new hotel is expected to eliminate the need for teams to stay in distant places. In such a situation, the need to close the road for security reasons during the passage of the team will be reduced.
Team India has not visited Pakistan for 16 years
Due to political relations and security reasons, the Indian cricket team has not visited Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. After the 2008 Mumbai attacks, all bilateral series between the two countries were also cancelled. Since then, the two countries have faced each other only in ICC tournaments or Asia Cup matches held at neutral venues. In all these years, the Pakistani team came to India to play the One Day World Cup last year.
