Delhi: Indian T20 team captain Shreyas Iyer will have a golden opportunity to create history in the second T20 match against New Zealand. In fact, if Iyer scores 25 runs, he will become the highest run-scorer in T20 International cricket as captain for India in a calendar year. Currently this record is in the name of former captain Rohit Sharma.
A five-match T20 series is being played between New Zealand and India. Iyer will be eyeing this big record in the second match to be held at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Saturday, 24 October. He is batting brilliantly as captain this year and he has a good chance to leave Rohit behind.
Shreyas Iyer has scored 632 runs in 22 T20 International matches while captaining India in the year 2026. During this period, his average was 35.11 and strike rate was 152.28. One century and two half-centuries have also come from his bat.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma, while captaining India in the year 2022, scored 656 runs in 29 T20 International matches. Iyer needs only 25 runs to surpass this figure. If he crosses this figure in the second T20 against New Zealand, Rohit's record will be broken.
