The hero of India's spectacular victory was captain Suryakumar Yadav, who played a stormy innings of 58 runs in 26 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes. He was selected as the Player of the Match for this innings.

Suryakumar has jointly reached the first position in terms of winning the most Player of the Match awards in T20 International. In the 69th match in this format, Suryakumar has become the Player of the Match for the 16th time. In this list, he equaled the retired Virat Kohli, who became the Player of the Match 16 times in 125 T20 International matches.

After being invited to bat first in this match, the Indian team scored 213 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Apart from Suryakumar, Rishabh Pant scored 49 runs in 33 balls, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 40 runs in 31 balls and Shubman Gill scored 34 runs in 16 balls.

In response, the Sri Lankan team collapsed in the end overs despite a good start. After 14 overs, Sri Lanka's score was 140 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, but 9 wickets fell in the next 5.2 overs.
