Aaryavir Sehwag, who is the son of the legendary opening batter Virender Sehwag, played a match-winning knock for India U-19 in the ongoing Asia Cup in Oman. Chasing 128 to win, the two openers completed the task in 19.1 overs. With their 10-wicket win, India started the Under-19 Asia Cup on a positive note.
Sehwag batted aggressively like his father and remained unbeaten on 70 runs off 52 balls in a 50-over contest. He smashed 7 fours and 4 sixes, with his runs coming at a strike rate of 134.61. His opening partner Lakshya Raichandani managed 53 not out off 63 deliveries, including 7 boundaries.
Nepal U-19 were never in the contest and managed just 128 in 42.3 overs. Indian bowlers were spot on from the start and kept the rival under pressure. The regular fall of wickets didn’t let the Bipin Sharma-led team settle down.
Darsh Sonar was the top run-scorer for his side, accumulating 43 in 93 balls, laced with a four and a six. Nepal’s wicket-keeper batter Aashish Luhar posted 29 runs while opener Niraj Kumar Yadav added 20 runs to the total. None of the other batters managed to touch the double-digit mark.
For India, Ishan Sood picked up three wickets for 18 runs from his 10 overs and was named the Player of the Match. Arjun Rajput claimed three scalps while Yashveer Goud got rid of two batters.
Kavya Paresh Patel and Manal Chauhan took 1 wicket each in the contest.
India Under-19 will now take on Pakistan Under-19 on November 8.
