Suryakumar Yadav was seen comforting a devastated Sanju Samson after the wicket-keeper dropped a regulation catch of Sri Lanka opener Kusal Mendis in the third T20I on Tuesday, July 30.
On the fifth ball of the sixth over from Mohammed Siraj, Kusal Mendis edged a length delivery on off-stump. However, Sanju Samson made a mess of what should have been a simple regulation catch, and ended up spilling the white ball from his gloves. Samson, who registered his second consecutive duck of the series in the match, could not believe his luck and was left devastated. However, captain Suryakumar Yadav showed great leadership quality and was quick to comfort Samson by patting on his back. Have a look at the video.
The wicketkeeper-batter was not given a chance in the first game of the series, but got an opportunity in the second game due to the back spasm of vice-captain of Shubman Gill. He was dismissed for a golden duck in the match. Gill returned for the third T20I but Samson got one more chance in the India playing eleven after Rishabh Pant was rested from the dead rubber. Notably, India won the first two T20Is to take an unassailable 2-0 lead. Talking about the third and final T20I, India suffered a batting collapse after being asked to bat first. They were reduced to 48/5 in 8.4 overs before Shubman Gill (39 off 27) and Riyan Parag (26 off 18) forged a 54-run partnership off 40 balls to take India past hundred. Later, a 32-run partnership off 34 balls between Washington Sundar (25 off 18) and Ravi Bishnoi (8*) helped India finish at 137/9. Sri Lanka spinner Maheesha Theekshana registered figures of 3/28 in four overs.
