Test Ranking Update: ICC has released the update of Test rankings and this time the biggest change has been seen in the batting rankings. England's Joe Root had missed out on removing New Zealand's Kane Williamson from the top spot in the last update but this time he was successful. Now Root has become the number 1 batsman in the Test rankings, while Williamson has suffered a loss.
Before this update, Joe Root's rating was 852 and he was 7 ratings behind Kane Williamson, who was in first place. However, Root gained 20 ratings after his 87-run innings against West Indies and now he has moved up one place to number one with a rating of 872. On the other hand, Williamson's rating is still 859 but now he has slipped to second place after a loss. Earlier, Root became the number 1 Test batsman last year but then lost his position due to a loss in between.
Looking at other changes in the top 10, Harry Brook has slipped to seventh position after losing four places, due to which Babar Azam of Pakistan and Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand have reached joint third, Steve Smith of Australia fifth and Indian captain Rohit Sharma has reached sixth position. All of them have gained one place each. Outside the top 10, England's Test captain Ben Stokes has reached 30th position with a gain of four places and Jamie Smith has reached joint 64th position with a gain of 31 places. West Indies' Kavem Hodge is at 72nd position with a gain of three places.
In the bowling rankings, England's Mark Wood has entered the top 20 for the first time by gaining six places, while Gus Atkinson has reached 46th place with a gain of four places. West Indies' Jaden Seals has gained seven places to reach a career-best 26th place. Stokes has also gained in the all-rounder rankings and he is sixth with a gain of one place, while Chris Woakes has reached ninth place with a gain of three places.
Zimbabwe's Sean Williams has re-entered the rankings to reach 33rd place in the batting rankings. In bowling, Blessing Muzarabani has reached 50th place, while Ireland's Mark Adair has gained three places to reach 63rd place.
