Vinesh was given world class staff, she was out of Olympics due to weight: Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya

On the wrestler Vinesh Phogat case, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in Parliament that the International Wrestling Federation has strongly protested against declaring the wrestler ineligible. The Sports Minister said that Vinesh was weighed twice, but her weight was found to be 50.100 kg. Vinesh was declared ineligible before entering the final match in the 50 kg weight category due to being overweight.

Sports Minister Mandaviya said in the Lok Sabha, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief PT Usha regarding Vinesh Phogat's case and has also instructed her to take appropriate steps.

She is currently in Paris. The Sports Minister said that every possible help was given to Vinesh for preparation. More than Rs 70.45 lakh was spent on Vinesh's preparation.

Weight test was done twice: Mandaviya

Mandaviya said that Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50 kg category Olympic event as her weight was 100 grams more than the set weight. She was playing in the 50 kg weight category. According to the rules of UWW, weight is measured every morning in every category for all competitions. According to Article 11, if a player does not participate or fails in the weigh-in, he is placed at the bottom of the rank.

He said that Vinesh's weight was tested twice on Wednesday before the final match. During the weighing, her weight was found to be 50.100 kg due to which she was declared unfit. Mandaviya said that the government had provided all kinds of sports facilities and training to Vinesh at every level. Vinesh was given assistance of Rs 70 lakh 45 thousand 775 for the Paris Olympics.

Opposition angry with the statement of Sports Minister

Meanwhile, the opposition was not satisfied with the statement of Sports Minister Mandaviya and in protest, the dissatisfied opposition MPs walked out of the Lok Sabha.

Vinesh had created history yesterday by reaching the final of the Olympics and became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the title match. Till Wednesday morning her silver medal seemed certain, but now she will return home without any medal.
