There have been many such occasions in the history of the world, when the sacrifice of one person has brought about big changes. Be it political changes or changes in rules or even a big revolution. Whoever makes such a sacrifice has to struggle with his circumstances but due to that the coming world is changed, it is better. If there are big changes in the sport of wrestling in the next few years, then the wrestlers of the coming generation can thank India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat for this because Vinesh has lost something that can become the reason for a revolution in wrestling in the coming times.
What happened on Wednesday morning, August 7, thousands of miles away from India in Paris, shocked not only this country but the entire wrestling world. About 12 hours ago, India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat had created history. She became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the wrestling finals at the Olympics. India was assured of a medal, be it gold or silver. On Wednesday morning, this historic achievement and medal hopes were completely blown away as Vinesh was found to be 100 grams over her set weight and was disqualified.
Disqualification in wrestling means being out of the entire competition, in which even the wins registered a day before become invalid, records are also cancelled and the biggest thing is that even after the medal is confirmed, it is taken away.
Vinesh and her team must have known these rules, but they and the entire country would not have anticipated such an unfortunate incident. Still, this happened and it shocked the Indian fans, put them in shock. Not only the fans, but the country's big players associated with different sports and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over this and this matter was also raised in the country's Parliament.Obviously, this most shocking and sad incident in the Olympic history of India was bound to create uproar in the country. Nowadays, this uproar is created only on social media, so this is what happened and Indian fans started raising questions on the rules - "Why are the results of the previous day being canceled, they should only be disqualified from the final and given silver, how much difference does just 100 grams more weight make..."

All these questions seem legitimate, but these questions have now been raised not only by Indian fans, but also by those who have knowledge of wrestling and many former wrestlers, who have nothing to do with India. That is, no one likes Vinesh losing the medal like this. This is the reason why now there is a demand for change in the rules of wrestling. The loudest voice for this has also come directly from the mouth of the Olympic champion. After this unfortunate incident with Vinesh, former US veteran wrestler Jordan Burroughs demanded major changes.
In a social media post, he demanded immediate change in 4 rules from UWW i.e. United World Wrestling-Proposed Immediate Rule Changes for UWW:
1.) 1kg second day weight allowance.
2.) Weigh-ins pushed from 8:30am to 10:30am.
3.) Forfeit will occur in future finals if opposing finalist misses weight.
4.) After a semifinal victory, both finalists medals are secured even if

Let us tell you in advance that Jordan is a 6-time world champion and also an Olympic gold medalist, so his arguments will definitely be strong. Along with these 4 arguments, he also wrote a 5th point, which is like a change in the rule but it is a straightforward demand - 'Vinesh should be given the silver medal'.
It is not that these rules were implemented only in this Olympics, rather they have been in place for many years, but perhaps for the first time in Olympic history, a finalist has had to lose his medal in this way. Perhaps that is why wrestlers from all over the world are also affected and hurt by this. Now if UWW accepts these demands of Jordan, then the date of 7 August 2024 will be remembered as the date of change in wrestling history and the reason for this revolution will be Vinesh Phogat, who had to make a sacrifice, even if unwillingly.
