West Indies vs South Africa T20I: South Africa has announced a 15-member squad for the T20 International series against the West Indies.

18-year-old fast bowler Kwena Maphaka, who was the Player of the Tournament in this year's Under-19 World Cup, has been included in the team. South Africa reached the World Cup semi-finals this year on the basis of Maphaka's excellent performance. In that tournament, Maphaka took 21 wickets at an average of 8.71. Maphaka then also played for the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League 2024.

“Kwena has been identified as a player with huge potential and this tour will present a great opportunity for him to integrate into the Proteas environment and gain valuable international experience,” South Africa limited-overs coach Rob Walter said.

Mafaaka is currently studying in school and his exams are also near.

But he will stay away from studies for some time to make his debut in international cricket.

Apart from this, middle order batsman Jason Smith has got a chance in the team, who performed brilliantly while playing for Dolphins in the Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge 2023-24.

Veteran wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock, who was part of the T20 World Cup team, is not among the 15 players.

Let us tell you that after the World Cup, de Kock did not make any announcement regarding retirement. He retired from Tests in 2021 and from ODIs in 2023. He will be seen playing for Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League, which will start from August 30.

Apart from this, Heinrich Klaasen, Enrique Norkhia, David Miller and Tabrez Shamsi are also not part of the team, the reason for which is believed to be the Caribbean Premier League. Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen have been rested.

The three-match T20 International series between West Indies and South Africa will be played from 23 to 27 August at the Brian Lara Stadium.
