Sridhar as the assistant coach of their team. Meaning, he will be in the role of assistant to the head coach of the Afghan team, Jonathan Trott.

Sridhar was a part of the Indian team from 2014 to 2021. He was appointed the fielding coach of the Indian team for the first time by the BCCI during the England series in 2014. After the end of that series, the BCCI extended his tenure. He was part of the support staff team coached by Ravi Shastri.Before joining Team India, R. Sridhar was the coach of Hyderabad's Under-19 and Under-16 team. Apart from this, he was also associated with NCA in Bangalore. In February 2014, he became the assistant coach of India's Under-19 World Cup team.
In April of the same year, IPL team Kings XI Punjab made him their fielding coach. In July 2014, he became the coach of Andhra cricket team for 2 years. He has also been the coach of Tripura cricket team.After joining Team India for the first time as a fielding coach in August 2014, he remained in this position continuously till 2021. His association with the Indian team continued until Rahul Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri and formed his own team of support staff. During Rahul Dravid's tenure, T. Dilip replaced R.

As the assistant coach of the Afghan team, he will be seen playing his role in the series against New Zealand and South Africa. Afghanistan has to play the only Test against New Zealand on Indian soil from September 9 in Noida. While in the 3 ODI match series, it has to face South Africa in Sharjah from September 18.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board also says that right now the contract with Sridhar is for only two series.

He has taken 91 wickets in addition to scoring 574 runs in 35 first class matches played for India.
