Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis scored a half-century in the second Test against New Zealand. His innings in Galle has broken a world record which is really surprising. This has been seen for the first time in the 147-year history of Test cricket. In fact, Kamindu Mendis has become the first player in the world to score more than fifty runs in 8 consecutive Test matches. Kamindu Mendis broke the record of Pakistani batsman Saud Shakeel who had scored more than 50 runs in 7 consecutive Tests.

Kamindu Mendis' world record

Kamendu Mendis made his debut against Australia in Galle in 2022 in which he scored 61 runs.

After this, he did not get a chance in the Test team but this year he played in the Sylhet Test and scored a century in both the innings against Bangladesh. He also scored 92 runs in the Chittagong Test. This player scored 113 runs against England in the Manchester Test. After this, he played an innings of 74 runs at Lord's. He managed to score 64 runs in the Oval Test. In the first Test played against New Zealand in Galle, an innings of 114 runs came off his bat and now once again he has scored an unbeaten 51 runs.

Kamendu Mendis became number 1

Kamendu Mendis is the first player to score a half-century in 8 consecutive matches on Test debut.

Before this, Saud Shakeel had achieved this feat 7 times. Bert Sachcliffe, Saeed Ahmed, Basil Butcher and Sunil Gavaskar had scored more than fifty in 6 consecutive Tests.
