Kamindu Mendis equaled Sir Don Bradman, became the number 1 Asian batsman to do so

Kamindu Mendis equaled the record of the great Don Bradman for scoring the fastest 1000 runs in Tests.

Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis on Friday became the joint third fastest player to reach 1000 Test runs during the second Test against New Zealand. He equaled Australia's great Don Bradman's record of 13 innings. Apart from this, Kamindu became the fastest Asian to score 1000 test runs.

25 year old Kamindu has been performing well ever since he made his debut. Kamindu hit a six off the ball of Rachin Ravindra on the second day of the second match being played at Galle Cricket Stadium. He became the joint third fastest player to complete 1000 runs. Before him, this feat had been done by Herbert Sutcliffe, Everton Weeks and Don Bradman.

Left-handed batsman Kamindu played a century of 182* runs with the help of 16 fours and 4 sixes in 250 balls in the first innings of the second test match. As soon as Kamindu touched the 1000-run mark by hitting a six, Sri Lanka declared its first innings at the score of 602 runs in 163.4 overs.

Apart from Kamindu, Dinesh Chandimal played a century inning of 116(208) runs. In his century innings he hit 16 fours. Kusal Mendis played an unbeaten century of 106 runs in 149 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Part time spinner Glenn Phillips took maximum 3 wickets for New Zealand. Tim Southee got one wicket.
