As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Auction approaches, all franchises are gearing up for a significant overhaul in their current squad. The IPL Governing Council recently unveiled the retention rules, allowing teams to retain up to six players, including one uncapped cricketer. Additionally, the Right to Match (RTM) card option has been reinstated.

Delhi Capitals’ potential retentions for IPL 2025

While franchises have been informed to submit their retained player lists by October 31, Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal has made a clear statement regarding the retention of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.

Jindal confirmed that Pant will undoubtedly be retained by the Capitals.

“We definitely have to retain him. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made,” Jindal said in a video shared by IANS on social media.

He also highlighted other potential retention candidates, including Axar Patel, Triston Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurkKuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed.

Jindal emphasized that the team will carefully consider their options and proceed with the auction accordingly.

“We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Triston Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed, all very good players in our team. We’ll see what happens in the auction. But first, as per the rule, we can retain six players. After discussions, we will proceed with the auction and see what happens,” he added.

Auction purse for IPL 2025

The auction purse for IPL 2025 has been set at INR 120 crore. Teams will face a significant reduction in their auction purse for each player retained. The first three retentions will reduce the purse by ₹18 crore, ₹14 crore and ₹11 crore, respectively. However, subsequent retentions will be more costly, with the fourth and fifth reducing the purse by ₹18 crore and ₹14 crore, respectively.

This means that a team retaining five players will see their auction purse reduced by a substantial ₹75 crore, leaving only ₹45 crore for the auction.

Delhi Capitals, who finished sixth in the previous season, are determined to build a strong squad and compete for their maiden IPL title. The upcoming mega-auction will be crucial for their rebuilding efforts.
