Former Australia cricketer Greg Blewett has attacked David Warner over his willingness to come out of Test retirement to play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. He called Warner self-absorbed for his statement.
Warner recently declared his intentions to play the most extended format of the game as the national team hasn’t been able to find a suitable replacement. With Steve Smith failing to get going as an opener, the management is looking for a new partner for Usman Khawaja.
Smith has been sent back to the no.4 batter. “I haven’t heard so much garbage in my life. He is going to be a commentator in the Australian summer. It seems Australia were lucky with David Warner around, and we didn’t respect him enough,” Gregg Blewett said on Triple M Adelaide’s Rush Hour with Bernie, Bleway, and Jars.
In the 112 Test, Warner scored 8786 runs at an average of 44.59, with 26 hundreds and a highest score of 335 not out against Pakistan.
The 52-year-old called Warner an average cricketer.
“He was just average, and now he wants to play again for Australia. Young Sam Konstas is going to be good if given a chance. Josh Inglis might get an opportunity. Nathan McSweeney is another good player. It is not like Warner was unstoppable as a batter, and we get him back in the team,” he added.
The first match of the India vs Australia Test series will start on November 22 in Perth.
