Jaipur: Young Shubman Gill is one of the coolest heads in the business.
It is not everyday that you see the Gujarat Titans captain lose his cool, but he did on Wednesday during an IPL match in Jaipur against the Rajasthan Royals. So here’s what happened!Off the last ball off the 17th over, Mohit Sharma bowled a slower delivery which Sanju Samson could not hit. The umpire called it a wide. With every run important, Gill opted to review it. Replays showed that Samson had moved a bit and was within reach to hit the ball and hence the decision was turned. But the problem was the on-field umpire signaled wide.
So, the replay had to be taken again.
And this time the umpire asked the on-field umpire to stay with his original decision. This confusion did not go down well with Gill, who protested.
Following the win, Gill revealed how they planned the chase when things got a little tight in the end.
“We were targetting 45 in 3 overs and it is very much gettable and that was the mindset at that time. Mathematically both batters needed to hit 22 off 9 balls and that’s how the thinking goes and if one batter goes berserk that will do.
I would have loved to finish the game, but very happy with Rahul and Rashid bhai for finishing the job for us. Winning the ball off the last ball is always a great feeling,” Gill said after the win. This was the first loss of the season for the Royals. They still remain on top of the points table.
