South Africa vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test: South Africa captain Temba Bavuma created history in the second innings of the second and last Test match against Sri Lanka at Gakabehara. Bavuma scored 66 runs in 116 balls in the second innings and with this he became the first captain in 147 years of Test history to score four fifty plus scores in a two-Test series.
In this series, Bavuma played innings of 70, 113, 78 and 66 runs respectively.
Earlier, the record of scoring the highest fifty plus score in a two-Test series was held by Tatenda Taibu (vs Bangladesh, 2005), Ricky Ponting (vs India, 2010) and Misbah-ul-Haq (vs South Africa, 2010 and vs New Zealand, 2011). As captain, all of them had scored three half-centuries in the three-Test series.Before Bavuma, there were seven players who had scored four fifty plus scores in a two-Test series, in which players like Sarfaraz Ahmed, Kumar Sangakkara, Andy Flower had also achieved this feat, but no one was the captain of the team.
Apart from this, Bavuma has become the first captain of South Africa, who has scored four or more fifty plus scores in a series of three or less test matches.
Let us tell you that before this, Bavuma had not scored three consecutive fifty plus in Test cricket.
Bavuma performed brilliantly in this series and scored 327 runs in 4 innings. Apart from him, no other South African player scored more than 200 runs in the series.In the first Test in Durban, Bavuma single-handedly led South Africa back in the first innings, scoring 37 percent of the team's runs. After this, 113 runs were scored in the second innings, due to which South Africa gave Sri Lanka a target of 516 runs to win.
