Addressing the Indian contingent, Dr. Mandaviya said, 'I would like to congratulate the Indian Deaf team for bringing pride and honor to the country by winning 55 medals in the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games in Malaysia. The country is progressing in the field of sports. The Government of India is taking several initiatives to improve sports infrastructure, administration and specialized coaching. When you compete at the national or international level, you not only win for yourself, but the country also wins with you.Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya further said, 'In 2015, we had sent a small team and returned with less number of medals. But I am very happy to say that this time 68 players competed in 7 different disciplines and won 55 medals in the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games. I feel very proud that positive change is taking place in the country and it is moving in the right direction.
This time India won the maximum number of medals in athletics in the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games. India won 28 medals in athletics, which included 5 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze medals. At the same time, in badminton, the Indian team won a total of 6 medals, which include 3 silver and 3 bronze medals. At the same time, there are 3 medals in chess (1 silver, 2 bronze), 7 medals in judo (2 gold, 5 bronze), 3 medals in table tennis (1 silver, 2 bronze) and 8 medals in wrestling (1 gold, 1 silver, Won 6 Bronze.
Let us tell you, before the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games, Sports Authority of India (SAI) had organized discipline-wise training camps for 68 athletes at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi, SAI NCOE Sonipat and SAI Regional Center Lucknow.
