Under Trott's coaching, the Afghan team got its biggest success in the T20 World Cup held this year. In this World Cup played in West Indies and America, the Afghan team had reached the semi-finals by defeating many big teams. This was the first time in the history of Afghan cricket that the team reached the semi-finals of an ICC tournament. However, there they had to face defeat from South Africa, but before that Afghanistan had defeated New Zealand, Bangladesh and even former T20 champion Australia.
Before the T20 World Cup, the Afghan team had created the biggest stir in last year's ODI World Cup, when it defeated defending champions England and teams like Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Netherlands. He had defeated England and Pakistan for the first time in any format. The team was even close to defeating champion Australia but Glenn Maxwell took away this happiness from Afghanistan with a surprising innings.
Despite this, Afghanistan had succeeded in finishing in the top 8 in the 10-team tournament and on this basis had qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025. Now this is the first big tournament in front of Trott, in which he will expect similar performance from his team. This tournament is to be played in February-March 2025. Currently, Trott is on a tour of Zimbabwe with his team, where they have to play ODI, T20 and Test series.
