Puja Mahato, Nepal’s U19 Women’s T20 World Cup captain, embraced the challenge with her idol Jasprit Bumrah in mind. The 18-year-old delivered a standout Player-of-the-Match performance against Malaysia, taking four wickets for nine runs, leading her team to victory. With nine wickets in total, Mahato topped the tournament’s bowling chart, thriving under pressure and showcasing her leadership and skill

“As a captain, I believe in setting an example by leading from the front. I’m someone who always wants to represent my country and contribute in every way I can.

Whether I’m bowling or batting, my goal is to make a difference. When bowling, I aim to take wickets quickly, and when batting, I focus on standing strong for my team. My bowling idol is Bumrah, and I strive to be Lady Bumrah, which is why I keep pushing myself. As a captain, it’s always been my mindset to stay committed and contribute to my country’s success,” she said.

Chasing 46, Nepal struggled at 22 for 3, but Mahato’s calm 23* guided them to a seven-wicket win, securing a perfect finish to her campaign

Puja Mahato was instrumental in Nepal’s U19 Women’s T20 World Cup qualification, scoring an unbeaten 130 and taking 5 wickets for 8 runs against Kuwait.

As she returns to senior cricket, her young teammates aim for success in the 2027 ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, hosted by Nepal.

“This victory means a lot to us, especially since we’ve given our best in previous matches but the results weren’t always in our favour. This is a special moment, and I want to enjoy it. The players have gained valuable experience, and in 2027, when we play at home, they’ll give their best. This victory will always be our most cherished memory,” Mahato added.
