Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard expressed frustration that fans have singled out particular players for the team’s losses. In a recent match against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya struggled with his line and length in the final over, allowing CSK legend MS Dhoni to smash three consecutive sixes and take 26 runs off the over. Pandya also bowled two wides at a crucial moment. Pollard believes fans should not scapegoat individual players for defeats that are team failures.

Pandya struggled and finished 2/43 from his four overs. He also had difficulty batting, managing just two runs off six balls. Dhoni’s barrage of three sixes and two runs off the final delivery played a big role in CSK’s win. Hardik also lauded MSD for his inputs to the team’s bowlers.

“There will be days like that for you. I’m exhausted of pointing fingers at specific people. In the end, cricket is a team sport.” opined Pollard.

“Pandya is an optimistic individual. He’s been excellent with the group. There are good days and bad days in cricket. I’m witnessing someone who is putting in a tremendous effort for the success of Mumbai Indians,” Pollard said.

The former West Indies allrounder reminded supporters that Pandya might be chosen for India’s T20 World Cup campaign, adding that everyone would be ‘singing his praises’ if that happened.

“In less than six weeks, he will represent the country. We will all be cheering for him and want him to succeed when that time comes. It high time we start supporting him as he is one of the greatest all-rounders India has ever produced,” he added.

The game saw booing directed at Pandya, who struggled with both bat and ball. Former England captain Kevin Pietersen criticized Pandya, claiming the Mumbai skipper was “smiling too much.” In response, Pollard said he is seeing Pandya evolve as a player and backed him to improve.

“You also need to grow as a person. When you’re younger and full of that carefree spirit, you go out and behave in a certain way,” he added.
